Lod: a city with a rich history:

Lod is an ancient city which was inhabited for thousands of years. Lod is mentioned in the Bible in Chronicles (Divrei Hayamim) 1 chapter 8:12 “The sons of Elpaal: Eber, Misham, and Shemed, who built Ono and Lod with its town”. sThe city was an important Jewish center about 2,000 years ago during the period of the scholars of the Mishna called the “Tanaim”. Many of these Tanaim lived in or near Lod such as Raban Gamliel, Rabbi Akiva, Rabbi Tarffon ,Rabbi Elazar ben Horkenos and more. During that time Lod became known as the “the city of the Tanaim”

74 years ago, Ben Gurion named Lod “the entrance to the Jewish state”

The city was liberated in the “Dani Operation” during Israel’s War of Independence.

Today, over 80,000 people live in Lod, about 70% Jews, 20% Arabs and 10% other nationalities.
